Rahm Emanuel, the famously foul-mouthed enforcer in the Obama administration, is learning the hard way the meaning of contrition. Not only has he been forced to apologise for his unfortunate use of the phrase “fucking retarded” in a recent West Wing meeting, but he has now invited a delegation from the Special Olympics to visit him at the White House to hear him take the “R-word pledge”
re⋅tard
–verb (used with object)
1. to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.
–verb (used without object)
2. to be delayed.
The word has become Politicized (it’s not politically correct), but did Rahm really slur the developmentally disabled or was he simply angry at a bunch of ideologues who can’t understand the need to help the president make some progress in order to eventually be able to approach some items on the more liberal side of the agenda?
Sure, he shouldn’t have said it, but it’s been blown well out of proportion. Interestingly, no uproar when it’s used by the right:
Article on use of the R word by conservatives
I hear ya, Merse! But he should know that folks like Palin will want his head for it. Interesting article, thx for sharing
Oh and Palin did have a field day with this…Funny how a few days after her comment Mr. Limbaugh said
“Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards. I mean these people, these liberal activists are kooks. They are looney tunes and I’m not going to apologize for it. I’m just quoting Emanuel. It’s in the news. I think the big news is he’s out there calling Obama’s number one supporters f’ing retards. So now there’s going to be a meeting. There’s going to be a retard summit at the White House.”
Her response?
“They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh. I didn’t hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with ‘f’ing retards,’ and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that,” Palin said. “There is a big difference there.”
Big difference? Huh??
