LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Tonight, at 8:05 PM, the 2010 MLB season kicks off with a bang in Boston (Beckett vs. Sabathia). Both teams made some strong additions to their clubs in the off-season. Yet as a Red Sox fan it’s tough to get my hopes up too high for an AL Pennant this year when the damn Yankees are sporting an offensive lineup that rivals any of the best in MLB history and their pitching rotation is very strong (and the bullpen, well, we all know how indomitable that has been and will likely continue to be). Why the Red Sox front office continues to make good additions to the lineup in the off-season (e.g., Andre Belte at third base), surely knowing that the Yankees are making excellent additions to theirs (e.g., Curtis Granderson in center field – drat!) is beyond me. Once again, the season hasn’t even started and, still, this Red Sox fan is frustrated because of the legendary lineup of the team that Costanza built.

CC Sabathia      Josh Beckett

136-81, 3.62 ERA              106-68, 3.79 ERA

5-5, 3.29 ERA vs. BOS    9-5, 5.33 ERA vs. NYY

And right on cue, Granderson homers in the second inning. Top of the fifth and the Yankees lead, 5-1. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Whoa! The Sox rallied back to take it, 9-7. Beckett looked pretty bad last night, but Youkilis and Pedroia were resilient, and the newbies, Beltre, Cameron, and Scutaro all came up big last night when the chips were down. Nicely done.

Giants might have a chance to compete this year. Strong pitching, scrappy hitting. I’m in a 1/4 of a 1/4 share on some season tickets, which means I get 10 tickets (5 games). Probably will buy a few other games here and there, too. It’s great to catch a game at ATT Park!

    2-0, baby!

It IS great to catch a game at ATT Park! I hope it’s not too long before I catch another one there (bobblehead or not). Freakin’ Yankees tied the game last night in the eighth on an error and then the Red Sox bullpen (Okajima of all people) walked in the go ahead run. Awful.
