Tonight, at 8:05 PM, the 2010 MLB season kicks off with a bang in Boston (Beckett vs. Sabathia). Both teams made some strong additions to their clubs in the off-season. Yet as a Red Sox fan it’s tough to get my hopes up too high for an AL Pennant this year when the damn Yankees are sporting an offensive lineup that rivals any of the best in MLB history and their pitching rotation is very strong (and the bullpen, well, we all know how indomitable that has been and will likely continue to be). Why the Red Sox front office continues to make good additions to the lineup in the off-season (e.g., Andre Belte at third base), surely knowing that the Yankees are making excellent additions to theirs (e.g., Curtis Granderson in center field – drat!) is beyond me. Once again, the season hasn’t even started and, still, this Red Sox fan is frustrated because of the legendary lineup of the team that Costanza built.
