Owsley Stanley, R.I.P.

Bear has died.  The “American chemist”, Owsley Stanley died this week.  He was an enormous figure in the history of the Grateful Dead.  He bought them sound equipment in their early days and even served as their sound engineer.  They wrote a song about him (“Alice D. Millionaire”), let him release an album containing his favorite versions of their tunes (“Bear’s Choice”) and even used him as the inspiration for one of their most famous logos: the dancing bear.

(NYT Obituary: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/15/us/15stanley.html)  So long, Bear.
